AlterG, Inc., makers of the Anti-Gravity Treadmill, a revolutionary technology for rehabilitation and athletic training, today launched the AlterG M300. The M300 delivers the same anti-gravity technology originally developed at NASA and found in AlterG’s P200 series, only at a third of the price and with a sleek new design. This means the world’s only anti-gravity treadmill will be accessible to millions of people who are looking to rehabilitate more easily from injury or surgery or who want to train smarter. The AlterG M300 is optimized in form, function and price for physical therapy clinics, athletic training and leading fitness facilities.

“Our AlterG P200 can bear the weight of pro football players, move at the speed of Olympic runners, and accommodate the specific requirements of world-class teams and athletes,” said Lars Barfod, CEO of AlterG. “The new M300 is designed to take all the benefits of our existing anti-gravity treadmill and make it more affordable and manageable for physical therapy clinics, fitness and training facilities and individuals. AlterG removes the obstacles associated with training and physical rehabilitation – impact on the body and the pain and difficulty of recovery – and helps even more people achieve their training and rehab goals.”

Whether a weekend warrior recovering from surgery or a hardcore athlete training through an injury, AlterG enables people to rehab faster, train like a pro, or even accelerate weight loss. Allowing people to run and walk at a fraction of their body weight (reducing up to 80% of a person’s weight), AlterG’s Differential Air Pressure technology applies a precise and comfortable lifting force to the body, so people can move naturally and pain free. Reducing body weight lowers the impact on joints and muscles to provide a smooth recovery from injury or surgery or to improve training and performance.

“The AlterG is very beneficial to our lower extremity patients. Whether recovering from injury or surgery, pushing the limits to improve race times, or simply trying to get back into shape, removing the physical burden of weight bearing has remarkable results,” said Bryan Nadeau of Muir Orthopedic Specialists, an AlterG customer. “Patients love the AlterG and more doctors are referring their patients to us everyday as a result.”

AlterG is easy to use, with simple, but important differences from a traditional treadmill. First, the user steps onto the Anti-Gravity Treadmill, raises the enclosure to their waist and zips into the air chamber that surrounds their lower body. The controls are nearly identical to any treadmill, beginning with the AlterG measuring body weight when the user presses start. By simply pressing the up/down arrows on the control panel, the user can decrease their body weight, with the air chamber inflating around their lower body so the air pressure literally “floats” them off the treadmill to the body weight setting they selected (e.g. 60%). Speed and incline are adjustable like any treadmill, so the user can exercise at their desired intensity. In addition to the standard treadmill safety features, support from the inflated air chamber makes users feel more secure during exercise.

Originally designed for top athletes, professional and collegiate sports teams, and leading medical facilities, the AlterG benefits anyone looking to train or rehab smarter. Broader distribution and the new, lower-cost version now make it accessible to more people everyday.

Current customers include America’s top distance runners, leading NBA, NFL and Pro Soccer Teams as well as premier medical institutions such as Walter Reed Hospital and UCSF.

The first AlterG prototype was developed in 2005. Alberto Salazar, famed marathon runner and director of Nike’s Oregon Project uses AlterG with America’s best distance runners, and was instrumental in working with AlterG founders to provide feedback on the original prototype. Additional early testers included the Golden State Warriors and the Oakland Raiders.
